We’re very proud (and not a little humbled) to have received a coveted Graphite Pencil at the D&AD Professional Awards.
The awards are sometimes called the Oscars of the design world – and just like in the movies, we proved that you don’t always need big budgets and computer wizardry to make an impact.
Instead, our charity Christmas card was singled out for the simplicity of its idea, design and execution.
D&AD judge Alan Dye said: “We saw lots of stuff: some whizzy technical data; amazing little videos; a lot of print. It was probably late on Sunday afternoon that I came to item number 678 – this little Christmas card – and it just made me smile.
“You see projects where they’ve spent a lot of money and it still isn’t good. This was great. The snowman is made from two buttons, and inside it says, ‘Brief: Christmas card. Budget: buttons.’ It made us all laugh and that’s why it got through.”
D&AD is recognised globally as the ultimate creative accolade, and winning a Pencil remains the pinnacle of many careers.
RRDCreative’s senior designer, Stuart Gray, said: “It’s an extraordinary honour to be recognised by D&AD. We’re incredibly proud to have produced one of the few projects to be judged as demonstrating ‘outstanding creative excellence’.”
